Residents, businesses and organisations have less than 24 hours left to have their say on Stafford Borough’s future development plan.

Stafford Borough Council’s New Local Plan 2025 to 2045 consultation closes at 12 noon on Tuesday 28 July.

The plan will help shape where new development can take place across the borough over the next 20 years. It will also look at issues such as housing, employment, transport, flooding, traffic, wildlife, the environment and the protection of Stafford Borough’s natural and built heritage.

Why the consultation matters

The Local Plan is one of the main ways the council decides what can be built, where development should go and which areas should be protected.

Stafford Borough Council has said the plan can help regulate development across the borough and give people the chance to highlight local issues that need to be addressed.

This could include concerns about increased traffic, flooding, pressure on services, loss of wildlife, future housing, employment land, open space or the impact of development on towns and villages.

Because the consultation is still at an early stage, it is an important opportunity for people to raise the issues they think should be considered before more detailed proposals are prepared.

What the council says

Councillor Ant Reid, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, said the Local Plan is a key way residents can have choice about development and preservation.

He said a robust plan can help regulate where things can and cannot be built, prevent inappropriate development and help protect the environment, countryside and habitats.

The council has also said the work could shape the borough for the next 20 years and beyond.

How to have your say

The consultation closes at 12 noon on Tuesday 28 July.

People can respond using Stafford Borough Council’s online consultation form here: https://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/news/time-share-views-stafford-borough-future-plan

Responses can also be sent by email to strategicplanningconsultations@staffordbc.gov.uk, but the council says emails must refer to the specific document, questions and relevant sections being commented on.

The consultation documents can be viewed through Stafford Borough Council’s New Local Plan 2025 to 2045 webpage. Documents can also be viewed at libraries or at the Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford.

Anyone who wants their views to be formally considered should respond before the deadline.

We need to look at the town instead of knocking all the shops down we need our market back up with a variety of stores that aren’t going to cost a bomb.

We need to look at doing repairs to our roads not just fill in as they don’t last.

We need community police that are know to the residents and can be contacted with area issues Not that we have many issues in our area.

Priority should be doing everything possible to get Stafford Hospital back up and running as a 24 hour accident and emergency hospital and anything and everything else should come after that is actioned.
