A popular Stafford town centre café has suddenly closed for what appears to be a temporary refurbishment.
Munch and Slurp, based in Stafford town centre, is understood to have closed on Wednesday 15 July. A handwritten note on the café’s shutters says it is being redesigned and will not reopen until 4 September.

The note says: “Hello Everyone! We are redesigning the cafe and so we will not be open until September 4th… I hope you all understand. We staff cannot wait to see you again! See you all soon! MUNCH & SLURP!!”
No further official statement from the business has been seen by The Stafford Bulletin at the time of writing.
Local reaction to the closure
The sudden closure has sparked discussion among local residents, with some customers saying they hope the café reopens as planned.
In the Stafford and Staffordshire Tactical Information Group, one commenter said her daughter worked at the café and claimed staff were told shortly before it closed. Another commenter described Munch and Slurp as a “really great place to eat” and said it would be a pity if it did not reopen.
The claims made in the comments have not been independently verified. However, the discussion shows that Munch and Slurp is a well-used café with regular customers in Stafford town centre.

Cafés to try while it is closed
While Munch and Slurp is temporarily closed, there are still several other cafés in Stafford town centre offering breakfast, hot food, lunches and traditional café-style meals.
Sarah’s Café, a Stafford Bulletin partnered business, is one option for people looking for a friendly local café serving breakfast, lunch and everyday hot food.
Coffee Bar & Kitchen on Mill Street also offers a similar style of menu, with cooked breakfasts, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, burgers and other hot food options.
The Soup Kitchen, near St Mary’s Church, is another long-running Stafford town centre café serving meals, snacks and drinks throughout the day.
Other nearby cafés, takeaways and bakeries also remain open, giving regular Munch and Slurp customers a few alternatives while the café is closed for redesign work.
Reopening expected in September
According to the handwritten note, Munch and Slurp is expected to remain closed until 4 September.
If the closure is linked to redesign work, customers may see changes when the café reopens. However, no further details have yet been confirmed publicly by the business.
The Stafford Bulletin will update readers if more information is released.
