Olympic champion James Guy has joined Stafford swim school Swimwell as its new ambassador.
The three-time Olympic gold medallist will work alongside Swimwell’s team, teachers and young swimmers as the independent swim school continues to develop its new purpose-built centre at Kingsmead Retail Park.
Swimwell said Guy’s experience, from learning the basics of swimming through to competing at the highest level of international sport, will help support its focus on teaching, technique, progression and confidence.
The announcement comes just months after Swimwell opened its new Stafford centre, giving the growing swim school its own purpose-built facility designed specifically around teaching children and adults to swim.

James Guy is one of Britain’s most successful swimmers, with three Olympic gold medals and three Olympic silver medals to his name.
His Olympic titles include gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay and mixed 4x100m medley relay at Tokyo, before successfully defending the 4x200m freestyle relay title with Team GB at the Paris Olympics.
Guy has also enjoyed success at World Championships, Commonwealth Games and other major international competitions.
Now, Swimwell says he is keen to use his experience to help inspire and support the next generation of swimmers.
The swim school said it will be working with Guy to look at what helps swimmers progress, from building strong foundations and confidence in the water to developing technique and teaching.
A purpose-built swimming centre in Stafford
Swimwell has been providing swimming lessons in Staffordshire for more than a decade and was founded in 2014.
Its new centre at Kingsmead Retail Park in Stafford has been designed specifically for swimming lessons, with the whole site focused around helping people learn and progress in the water.
Unlike a traditional public swimming pool, the centre does not have public swimming sessions, lane swimmers or other activities competing for pool space during lessons.
Swimwell offers a range of programmes, including baby and preschool swimming, structured learn-to-swim lessons, SEN-inclusive swimming and Rookie Lifeguard sessions.
The school also provides swimming teacher and safety training through its approved training centre.

Swimwell is currently closed for lessons while its team takes a break and essential pool maintenance is carried out, with lessons due to restart on Tuesday 1 September.
