Stafford Borough Police has issued two separate updates following incidents in the town, including a deliberate fire on Eastgate Street and a series of alleged shop thefts and assaults.
The incidents are not connected.
Man arrested after deliberate Eastgate Street fire
Police were called to Eastgate Street at around 12.30pm on Monday 17 August after reports that a skip and several bins were on fire.
A 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of arson.
Sergeant Gillespie, from the Stafford local policing team, said the recent warm and dry weather had increased the risk of fires spreading and causing significant damage.
He said: “Thankfully the fire was extinguished quickly by firefighters and an arrest was made.”
Police have not released any further details about the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Stafford man charged following series of alleged offences
In a separate investigation, a 38-year-old Stafford man has been charged following a series of alleged shop thefts and assaults.
Liam John Rogers has been charged with six counts of theft from a shop and four counts of assault by beating.
Stafford Borough Police said more than £500 worth of goods were taken from five shops between Thursday 18 June and Sunday 16 August.
Four people were also allegedly assaulted during the same period.
Rogers has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Friday 18 September.
