A new public defibrillator and bleed control kit could be installed outside Nationwide Building Society in Stafford town centre.
A planning application has been submitted for two external cabinets on the branch at 25 Greengate Street.
The application was validated by Stafford Borough Council on Friday 7 August and is currently awaiting a decision.
Equipment would be available 24 hours a day
Nationwide says the proposal forms part of plans to install life-saving equipment at selected branches across the UK.
The Stafford branch would receive a defibrillator and a separate bleed control kit, each housed inside its own secure external cabinet.
According to the planning statement, the equipment is intended to provide rapid, 24-hour access in an emergency.
The cabinets would be fitted in a prominent position so they can be easily seen and reached when needed.
Nationwide says the proposed locations have also been chosen to limit their effect on the appearance of Stafford town centre’s conservation area.
Heated and illuminated cabinets proposed
Information submitted with the application shows that the cabinets would have a double-skin construction with a thermostatically controlled heater and air circulation fan.
They would also include internal LED lighting to make them easier to identify at night.
The cabinets are designed to protect the equipment from water, dust, impact and corrosion, with polycarbonate doors and security fixings intended to reduce the risk of damage or vandalism.
The doors would also carry dual branding on the front.
Nationwide says the cabinets could be removed in the future if they were no longer required.
Application awaiting decision
The application, reference 26/42171/FUL, was submitted on 1 May 2026 and validated on 7 August.
It seeks permission for the installation of the defibrillator and bleed kit cabinets on the external wall of the Nationwide branch.
Stafford Borough Council has not yet made a decision on the plans.
