A man has been arrested following a deliberate fire in Stafford town centre.
Police were called to Eastgate Street at around 12.30pm on Monday 17 August after reports that a skip and several bins were on fire.
A 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of arson.
Fire extinguished quickly
Stafford Borough Police said the incident came during a period of warm and dry weather, when the risk of outdoor fires spreading is particularly high.
Sergeant Gillespie, from the Stafford local policing team, said: “With the warm, dry weather we have experienced recently, the risk of any fire spreading and causing significant damage is high.”
He added: “Thankfully the fire was extinguished quickly by firefighters and an arrest was made.”
Police have not released any further details about the circumstances surrounding the fire at this stage.
