Leigh Ingham MP has called for a new youth centre to be created in Stafford town centre.

She said she wants the project to be given priority and believes there is strong local support for creating a dedicated place for young people in Stafford.

In a statement, she said young people across Staffordshire had faced significant reductions in youth services and argued that more support and opportunities were needed.

Working with local councils and providers

Leigh Ingham said she wants to work with Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and local youth providers to explore the possibility of creating the centre.

She also pointed to the Government’s new youth strategy and said there were opportunities to bring additional support and investment into Stafford.

She said: “What I want to see is a priority given to the new youth centre right here in Stafford town centre.”

Leigh Ingham added that young people deserved more opportunities to thrive and said investment in youth services should be treated as a long-term priority.

At this stage, no specific building, funding package or opening date for a Stafford youth centre has been announced.
