Penkridge Leisure Centre is carrying out refurbishment work to its pool and dryside changing rooms this summer.
The pool changing rooms will close from Monday 20 July 2026 while a major refurbishment takes place. The work is due to be completed by Friday 14 August 2026.
The leisure centre said the improvements will include new changing benches, lockers, non-slip flooring, improved ventilation, refreshed shower areas, new wall finishes, improved lighting and full redecoration.
Swimming pool remains open
The swimming pool will remain open as normal during the refurbishment.
Swimming lessons, public swimming sessions, Aqua Fit and club activities are expected to continue as planned.
However, poolside changing and shower facilities will not be available while the work is taking place.
Customers are being asked to follow a temporary “Robe & Go” system. This means arriving swim-ready with swimwear under clothing, using the spectator gallery to access and leave the pool, drying off on poolside and then putting on a robe, towel poncho or loose-fitting clothing before leaving.
Customers will need to shower and change at home during the temporary arrangements.
For swimming lessons, children should arrive swim-ready. Parents and guardians will be able to help them prepare in the spectator gallery, and swimming teachers will bring children back to the gallery at the end of lessons.
Toilets will remain available in the main leisure centre building, although customers are encouraged to use the toilet before arriving where possible.

Dryside changing rooms also being improved
Further work is planned for the dryside changing rooms from Monday 3 August to Friday 28 August.
During this part of the refurbishment, gym changing rooms will be unavailable. Gym customers will be able to use the swimming pool changing rooms instead.
Some parking spaces may also be temporarily unavailable while work is taking place, but accessible parking will remain available at the front of the building.
Penkridge Leisure Centre said it does not expect the slight reduction in parking spaces to cause issues for customers during the summer holidays.
Temporary disruption during summer works
The leisure centre has thanked customers for their patience and cooperation while the improvements are carried out.
Once complete, the refurbishment will provide upgraded changing facilities for swimmers, gym users and other visitors.
